When one concrete panel settles below the next, the resulting vertical edge can become a trip hazard. Leveling the low slab may solve the elevation problem without replacing both panels. The first step is determining whether the slab is still strong enough to preserve and whether the movement is primarily settlement rather than upward heave.
What affects price?
Contractors look at the number and size of slabs, depth of the void beneath them, amount of elevation change, access for equipment, material choice, surface condition and minimum service charges. That is why two projects with the same visible square footage can price very differently.

When can a trip hazard be lifted instead of ground down?
Lifting is useful when the low panel has settled. Grinding is more appropriate when the high side can safely be reduced without compromising the slab.
Does leveling help ADA access?
Correcting abrupt elevation changes can improve accessibility, but commercial and public-access work should be evaluated against applicable accessibility requirements.
What if the concrete is broken into several pieces?
Severely fragmented concrete may not lift as a stable unit and can be a better candidate for replacement.
